Disability Psychotherapy Ireland
Working for the development of Disability Psychotherapy in Ireland
About Disability Psychotherapy Ireland
Disability Psychotherapy Ireland (DPI) began with a small group of psychotherapists who shared a unique and meaningful connection—we were all being clinically supervised by the late Dr. Alan Corbett. Alan was a pioneering psychoanalyst, disability psychotherapist, author, and founding member of the UK’s Institute of Psychotherapy and Disability. He also served as Director at Respond (UK).
Alan was a visionary in the field of disability psychotherapy, both in the UK and internationally. His guidance and deep commitment to the therapeutic needs of people with disabilities were instrumental in shaping our work here in Ireland.
What started as a reading group introduced by Alan grew into Disability Psychotherapy Ireland. Since then, we’ve hosted reading groups, seminars, conferences, and—more recently—a highly successful series of webinars and hybrid workshops.
We’re proud to have an ongoing partnership with the Callan Institute, which has played a key role in many of our events. Together, we aim to support clinicians, allied professionals, individuals, families, and disability services.
Our mission is to raise awareness of the importance and effectiveness of psychotherapy for people with disabilities. We are committed to promoting equality, celebrating diversity, and ensuring fair access to therapeutic support for all.
